brighter than sunshine

sweet side of the bell curve

law and order and disorder

February 7, 2007

February 7, 2007

Three things that keep me busy lately:

House MD - When I’m at the office I watch House on www.peekvid.com and on my spare time I update some files for work… haha.

Ally McBeal - thanks to piracy I got to watch Ally McBeal on weekends. Kabaliw! Why did I never pursue law that much?

Osho Zen Tarot - It’s been almost a month since I bought my first deck of tarot cards but I haven’t given much time learning it yet. Well.. ganon talaga ako. Sometimes, the interest over something runs longer than actually keeping something. haha

Yun lang naman so far…

Then while watching House, the doctor said something about bipolarity. I like that word because I always felt that I am a bipolar person because of my extreme characteristics until I heard that it was a disorder.

According to Wikipedia, it is a mood disorder, a special case of clinical depression that cycles with mania and hypomania. Tsk tsk! My friends tell me that I have so many things I like to pursue but once started, I never really push hard to finish them. Like law perhaps though I never really started at all. Also, just last year, I remember being too eager to paint until I bought a good set of oil painting tools but I just painted for a day and thadaaaah… I never painted again. These are just few of those interests that I start but never finish. Well, I can really get obsessive when I want something or when I start liking something (this only applies to things… no person in record yet)

Hmmm.. So am I clinically sick? I don’t think so.I think not therefore I’m not.

Then again, lately I am being drug-dependent – on antihistamine tablets. I am allergic to dust mites that I barely lift any cleaning tool at home. haha (para-paraan) I easily sneeze and get watery eyes whenever something dusty is near, so the allegy to dust mites. This I self-diagnose as allergy rhinitis. Then I discovered that anti-allergy treatments can make you drowsy. Sounds interesting. Hitting two birds with one stone. One medication for allergy and my sleeping disorder. It’s my second week on antihistamine pills. I hope I don’t become addicted to them. Though, I’m starting to research on the effect of antihistamine overdose. So far, tremors (which I realize I am starting to have before finding out that it is one of the symptoms of overdose) are the only obvious effect so I guess I’m not overdosed yet. hehe…

Don’t worry dear friends, I don’t take this antihistamine drugs when I drink alcohol. I sleep as soundly after drink as after taking antihistamine pills. Which do you want as a friend, a drug-dependent or an alcoholic? Wag nyo akong isumbong sa parak! hehe

Simoy LB na!

February 1, 2007

February na! Besides Christmas and birthdays, this is one month that I really look forward to. What else could be the reason? It’s not Valentine’s Day for crying out loud. It’s FebFair!!! LB, here we come again. I shall conquer thee.

Actually, anytime, I can go back to LB but things will never be the same unless I go there with “my” LB friends. So anytime I’m with them, any place we are in is like an extension of our dear comfort zone. As I always say, “You can take us out of UPLB but you cannot take UPLB out of us.”

For my most friends, high school life is the best. For me, it will always be college. College in UPLB to be exact! Honestly, I don’t I’ll be having the kind of fun if I had taken my degree somewhere else. Kung sa CDLB kaya? haha. But seriously, others always wonder what is it in UPLB that will make you keep coming back.

Friend X: Nag-college din naman kami. Nagkafriends, Nagloko. We practically did the same things you’ve done pero di kami ganong kahamit sa mga Alma Mater namin. Bakit ganyan kayong mga taga LB?

Emcee in harness (smoke machine in full blast): UPLB culture yon!

Background: I keep coming back to Los Baños.. Los Baños (tune of I keep coming back to Manila) Repeat 20x until fade…

Los Baños… Los Baños. Looking back, I say that it isn’t actually the UP curriculum that I am most proud of. It is the people. The culture it already has long before I came, the culture that I come to imbibe through time, and the culture the I unconsciously pass down and influence others. My best times in LB weren’t when I topnotched an exam (although nobody might really recall this because there is nothing to be recalled.. haha) but the moments I got to know and understand real people. In my four years in LB, I got to be a member of three organizations: Econsoc, DLS and YFC. I also became part of the College Council and the Senior Board. In each group, I had a unique experiences. Unique experiences but everytime I reminisce them, the sensation is the same.

I was about to make a recap of the things I would have missed had I not stayed in UPLB for four years but I realized I could probably had gotten kidnapped, drunk, taken an exam drunk, eaten the UPLB treats, drunk again and drunk again had I studied somewhere else. I would have still chosen not to go home to Batangas for a few weekends just for some nothingness trips that pop from we-don’twanna-know-where. But the very reason I wanted it in LB is because of the friends I got to know and understand there. Yes I have a great deal of friends I met outside LB - high school friends and friends I knew from work. I don’t mean underestimate them and I don’t, I swear!

There are people I am acquainted now that I would think twice sharing drinks with. But with my LB friends, hmmm…. these are the friends I want to get hang-overs with anytime and over and over again! Kitakits sa Feb mga kachokaran!

Pursuit of Happiness or Happiness of Pursuit

January 27, 2007

Happiness. The most overrated goal of every individual. ‘I just want to be happy.’ That’s what we always say. We tell a friend Kung di ka na masaya, umalis ka na. I say ‘I’m not happy anymore’ and the thing next I know I’m depressed. I want to leave and take refuge somewhere.

In the movie Pursuit of Happiness, Thomas Jefferson was quoted twice for using the phrase Pursuit of Happiness twice in the Declaration of Independence. The main character wondered why put pursuit instead of plain happiness. And so he questions, is happiness something you simply pursue but you cannot actually achieve? Is it?

A friend told me that I never seem to be really happy that’s why I keep on leaving a good job. I may be always have the bubbliest friends and the contagious laughter on my exterior but inside me is a heart that will never be contented. Perhaps, there’s truth in that. Perhaps that is why I like the phrase ‘thrill of the chase’. I just want to pursue happiness but once having it, I realize I don’t really want it because, then what? I like the quest, the search. The less you have, the more you look forward to something. It’s the chase and the pursuit that I’m after, not the happiness itself.

I watch Ally McBeal series and I always wonder why Billy left Ally in the first place. They were each other’s love of their lives. Billy left Ally because he knew that Ally would never be happy even with him. Truth is, I hate Ally everytime she feels that she is the biggest failure in the world. But, maybe, I am just like her. Ever-complaining how sorry my life turned out with the random panic attacks of underachievement.

But what do we know? I’m having a great time and I don’t even know it. I’m having the time of my life in my own happiness of pursuit or maybe pursuit of happiness. Whichever!

murphy’s law

January 16, 2007

If things can go wrong, they will… or so there is the Murphy’s Law. Talking about bad luck! Whenever things my way go wrong, I always say to myself: this is all part of the learning process. Things happen for a reason. But now, I come to think that a better way of explaining it is Murphy’s Law. Accidents are inevitable. Life is ironic. You don’t get what you deserve. You don’t deserve what you get. Karma works in mysterious ways. You always give your best shot, but at the end of the day, things still suck. And they do so big time!

Flashback: I was very sleepy which is quite rare these days so I snoozed for the nth time so I can steal a few more minutes of alcohol-drug-free true sleep. I was running late but I cared no less until when I tripped down the stairs. Imagine about eight steps in the stairs. Taena!

Let bygones be bygones. I may sound exaggerating here of making a building out of eight steps in the stairs. But seriously, don’t those I-didn’t-see-that-coming instances just ruin your things-are-getting better days. In the end, it’s the small dot in the whole picture that you see.

Anyway, here I am talking about how unfair life can be when in fact I don’t want to dare nature to give me what I truly deserve. Who knows, what I truly deserve is falling from the top of the building? Life sometimes suck but it’s just the way it is. Cheers to Murphy!

Ako ang kapitbahay, kapitbahay mo

January 12, 2007

Ako ang kapitbahay, kapitbahay mo

Laging handang tumulong sa inyo

Kilala nyo ako

Kilala nyo ako

Ako’y isa sa kapitbahay

Kapitbahay ninyo

Repeat 10 times until fade

Alam ko naman na wala kang maipupuslit in between your breaks.

Buti pa nga sila may Minesweeper.

Be good! Matakot ka sa karma!
