grown-up christmas list

October 29, 2009

My new fave Christmas song 2009 :)

Do you remember me
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you
With childhood fantasies

Well, I’m all grown up now
And still need help somehow
I’m not a child
But my heart still can dream

So here’s my lifelong wish
My grown up christmas list
Not for myself
But for a world in need

No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
and wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end
This is my grown up christmas list

As children we believed
The grandest sight to see
Was something lovely
Wrapped beneath our tree

Well heaven surely knows
That packages and bows
Can never heal
A hurting human soul

No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end
This is my grown up christmas list

What is this illusion called the innocence of youth
Maybe only in our blind belief can we ever find the truth
(there’d be)

No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, oh
This is my grown up christmas list

This is my grown up christmas list

Christmas na! I can feel the spirit when I was in Mega A earlier, until I passed by the supermarket and I saw all the grocery personnel in halloween make-up! Kaloka! I imagine if Angela would see them, she might cry. hehe.. Kumusta naman ang cashier na may black na lipstick with matching black-eye? hehe

penguin test

October 19, 2009

I’ve always had a thing for penguins because they look like nuns hence reminding me of my favorite nun  in the world, Sr Catalina. hehehe.. Seriously, I like penguins because they are said to be loyal (to their mates) so I think if they can be as loyal to their masters as they are to their mates, they should be man’s best friends, not dogs. So if I can have a pet, I want a penguin. hehe.. Bangag na ko! It’s in the Fortes for me list to set foot on all the continents of the world including Antarctica and I call the plan to go there as Project Penguin. I like penguins because they hibernate na hindi lang pag-iinarte but because they need to. So here are other things I found out about them through Wiki and some inputs I want to share why I’m liking them more.

Penguins (order Sphenisciformes, family Spheniscidae) are a group of aquatic, flightless birds living almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere, especially in Antarctica. Highly adapted for life in the water, penguins have countershaded dark and white plumage, and their wings have become flippers. Most penguins feed on krill, fish, squid, and other forms of sealife caught while swimming underwater. They spend about half of their life on land and half in the oceans - Swimmer ako. If I can stay swimming whole day keri lang kaso baka magmukha akong balat-raisins.

Penguin may come from the Latin pinguis, “fat”. - yun nga lang i’m not fat pero nagpapataba ako

The word Penguin is thought by some to derive from the Welsh words pen (head) and gwyn (white) - Pag may random white hair ako ayoko tanggalin kasi gusto ko talaga all-white ang hair ko pag matanda na ko.

Another theory states that the word is an alteration of “pen-wing”, with reference to the rudimentary wings of both Great Auks and penguins, but there is no evidence to support this - ano daw? I like writing naman.. hmm.. pens for writing??

Penguins for the most part breed in large colonies - orgy? haha.. yuck!

Penguins form monogamous pairs -Yown!

Penguins seem to have no special fear of humans, and have approached groups of explorers without hesitation. - di naman ako takot sa tao.

Penguins are popular around the world, primarily for their unusually upright, waddling gait and (compared to other birds) lack of fear of humans. Their striking black-and-white plumage is often likened to a tuxedo suit. - i like men in tuxedo. hehe

Penguins have been the subject of many books and films such as Happy Feet and Surf’s Up -I like surfing. hehe

And here are some fun facts I found out:

  • Penguins don’t fly, they swim. - I dont fly, hehe.
  • Penguins lay eggs. - Babae ako. I lay eggs.
  • They are warm blooded like humans. - Same here.
  • When mothers lose a chick, they steal another mother’s chick. Kahit sinong nanay baka magawa to.
  • They are mostly found below the equator. - below the equator ba ang Pinas?
  • Penguin chicks have fluffy feathers. - I like fluffy feathers.
  • Penguins have short legs and no knees. - Yun lang!
  • They have good arrangement of bones in hand. This makes them flexible. - Another yun lang!
  • Their knees and upper legs are covered with feathers. - hmmm
  • Their feathers are short, overlapping and tightly packed. - hmmm again
  • They are often black and white in color. my fave colors
  • Some species have yellow feathers. - for their sunny disposition
  • When the salt storage completely fills the gland, penguins go to a rock and knock his beak. This allows him to empty the salt content. - health conscious!
  • Male penguins take care of their chicks. - Gusto ko ng ganyang lalake
  • In cold places, males balance eggs on their feet and cover with belly flap to keep them warm. - in warm places naman?
  • They bite fiercely to defend themselves and their nests. - palaban!
  • Penguins use sign language to communicate with each other. - Taray!
  • They make use of their flippers and head to talk to other penguins. - Bongga!
  • They feed on fish, cephalopods and krill. -Mahilig naman ako sa seafoods.
  • Penguins swallow their food as a whole. -aray!
  • They have a variety of bill shapes. -parang make-up lang.
  • Giant petrels and leopard seals are enemies of penguins. -Bad naman sila e,
  • They also call, blow and preen. -eto ang chikahan moment nila.

Aliw! Go Penguins!

By the way I have a 5-way Penguin Test I posted before in my Workstation Area. It’s the Rotary Test and I just added: will it give me an LV bag? But this is the revised version:

  1. Are you passionate about it?
  2. Is it the truth? - Have to keep this?
  3. Are the stars and the signs aligned? - parang exloration lang kasi yan! (Magellan tone)
  4. Where do you start?
  5. Are we there yet?

sober in october

October 15, 2009

This is my long overdue meltdown. Haven’t blogged as much as I want to. I’m always too busy at work (never in school), too lazy to bring my laptop to the apartment, or, too busy FB-ing and watching DVD on weekends in Batangas. Last night I tried blogging through my phone but failed. I was a little excited pa naman about my interesting yet pathetic attempt to digest my emotions. It’s like my emotions, interesting and pathetic.

Since the last time I blogged, my days had been full of worries. What have I not learned about the futility of worrying? I guess easier said than done on that part.

There was the Ondoy tragedy. After the weekend incident, each day, the stories I heard worsened. I was awed by the news and with what I saw when I went to Cainta. I was thankful that my family was spared. My heart always cried by little stories of unsung heroes who went out of their way to help even though they themselves are victims. I felt guilt because I felt that I could have been the more deserving victims than these people. Yet, on top of it all, I was amazed by the bayanihan support system of the Filipinos. I haven’t had this proud-to-be-Pinoy moment.

There are also other worries, although they may sound so self-serving as if the world revolves around me but I’ll share it anyway:

There’s office: Life is crazy - an understatement! Nuff said!

There’s MBA: Sometimes I don’t see the point why I’m taking this. If I were not more than half-way through it, I would have given up. I read an article where a CEO claims the 2 years in MBA is worth 10 years of his professional experience. NOT! If not for the good friends I’ve met through the program I wouldn’t have stuck out all this time.

There’s this guy whom I shall call Speedo (because he is a great swimmer) who is now one of those what-if list. I just found out that he got his gf pregnant. They were on cool-off last summer when we were still in summer breeze mode (whatever that means).

There’s this guy whom I shall call Nike (because he looks sporty to me) who is another everything but the tall guy. I wonder if I should change my height-is-none-negotiable policy.

There’s this guy whom I shall call Billabong (because I’m into sports brand in this post) who is everything but a guy ata becauseof his so girly way of doing things. Walang balls?

And then there’s the Sober in October policy which I don’t know if I can really keep up to. Why did I ever think of that? Oh well, because of the guilt from Ondoy.

There’s this wonder why the hell am I writing about all these things???
