bucket list

It’s a story of two terminally-ill guys who just happened to share the same hospital room. Bakit bucket?! For the last days of their lives they made list of things they wanted to do before they kick the bucket. So though barely even friends, they left together to pursue their to-do’s, learned lessons on what they really value in life along the way and ended up as bestfriends.

The movie is so touching and I have no doubt why my friends Joyce and Maui remembered me when they learned about the movie. Loveyah girls, I have no doubt too that my to-do’s in life are better done with you.

Death is a univeral truth and nobody escapes it. I don’t know if it’s really liberating to know how much time you have to work with. Known or unknown our times of death may be, I believe it’s important to have that forward thinking that our life is finite and that if there is anything we want to do, we should start doing our part for them to materialize.

Maui and I have our re-soul-utions, our version of our to-do lists. And after all my queries on purpose and my random lifechecks from time to time, it won’t be a surprise that I have a mental image of a loooot of things I want to do before I kick the bucket. I hope it helps to list them done so I will be reminded of my life’s ultimate targets. I’ll list down 15 for now:

1. Travel to all the continents of the world (Antartica excluded)

2. Backpack in Europe

3. Treat my family to a vacation trip

4. Try an aerial extreme sport (bungee-jumping, skydiving, flying trapeze)

5. Join in a retreat / pilgrimage

6. Send my youngest brother to college

7. Participate in a theater play

8. Donate blood

9. Organize an outreach program

10. Get published

11. Excel in a craft

12. Paint my personal portrait

13. Get a tattoo

14. Get married

15. Build my Emcee-ish house and drive my own SUV

According to the movie, when one dies, he is asked two questions: Did you find joy in your life? Have you given joy to others? I hope when I die, I can genuinely say yes to both.
