inconvenient truth
July 2, 2007"Truth has its own way of letting itself known. It can either bring joy or sorrow, raise up or raze down, empower or dismember. It may bring the best or the worst in people. But what matters is how one embraces it as part of a rather complicated reality and in turn let one know and accept the path to be taken."
I got this message from ate Apple and I got into thinking about the documentary I watched a week ago: The Inconvenient Truth. Indeed, the truth about global warming has its way of letting itself known. It's already July and still it is very humid. The rainy/stormy season should have been here by now yet what we feel are only few rainshowers.
Before, a friend already told me to watch this documentary by Al Gore but someone shared in a forum I read that his boyfriend gave up smoking after watching this. I was amazed how such a documentary can alter someone's habit. A part of me was also scared that I may not have the same reaction. (Am I that callous?) Or having the same reaction to quit smoking, can I really kick the habit for good? (There were some benefits for me… hehe).
Eventually I watched it and my reaction is simply this: Everyone should see this! This should be a requirement in schools and offices. If the government can have this played in the MRTs/LRTs, good. If moviehouses can play a trailer before the films, good. If buses would just show this instead of FPJ films, good. Of course not everyone would give the time to watch it but there may be some who wouldn't mind. That could make a difference!
The issue about our environment is everybody's problem. I hope that we can pass the good news around: That there is still something we can do! My part by the way: I'll give up smoking. Though that is also because of health reasons, I want to do this with a cause on mind, to make a little difference.
